News

A lot has happened since our the last newsletter so i do apologise for the delay . I will cover as much as i can below, first we had a successful trip to Aber, the AGM took place, some clubs rides (i was working on my tan lines in the Caribbean) and also #wiregate (# is a twitter reference Paul Edwards just incase you didn’t know). I can still feel the tensions from Sunday.

Starting with our trip to Aberystwyth, i think we can all agree it was a tough weekend on the bike but was worth the ride just for that burger (well played Trev). A eventful weekend that including Lee dropping his chain on the staircase (so he says), Edwards riding around a roundabout multiple times to get the 100mile strava award (pretty sure he was wearing a gold star on the Saturday night as well bloody teachers) Myself having to read Karl a bed time story (kids these days) . Other than that it was a great weekend and i am pretty sure everyone enjoyed and will be returning next year.

Phil, Trev and Paul kindly locating a new wire for Ian in county cycles

We held our club AGM recently (click here for minutes) the big news is that Ian Williams will be stepping up as our new club captain, however after #wiregate i think he needs to do some bike maintenance first.

For further details on the AGM have a read of the minutes.

CURRY NIGHT

Ian Wiregate Williams has kindly organised the Wheelers Curry, it is taking place on December the 17th in the Viceroy. Please let Ian know if you plan attending , rumour has it Ian and the owners have been working together on a special menu.

2016

So as our 2016 season is drawing closer, all we are thinking about is zone bloody 2 (Nic Cleave loves a zone 2 session). Some of the members are already putting together some goals and targets.

Tour of Flanders

Andy, Karl, Trev and the might Steve Partner have entered the Tour Of Flanders sportive, a long weekend away in April will see us complete the full route sportive on the Saturday, drink very heavy on the Saturday night and then watch the pros showing us what to do on the Sunday. It will hopefully be a amazing weekend away. If anyone is interested i am sure spaces are still available and i can send you the link . For me it is a personal mission to complete roubiax, leige and flanders by the grand age of 30 (i turn 3o the week before but i will take it )

Haute Route 2016

Its almost like Rocky, Big Phil Graham goes the distance in the Haute Route Alps (like rocky went the distance with Creed) now he’s going back for more but this time in the Pyrenees. and this time to win . (I can just see him shouting you ‘YO SARAH I DID IT’)

Wheelers Racing

Lee will be updating us with regards to any road races that will be coming up, on a personal note i would love to have a go but i love donuts too much, however if anyone is interested please get in touch with Lee or ‘skinny’ Jeremy Rees.

E-mail from Paul Edwards (i had to use spell check on this e-mail tut tut)

Just a reminder that anyone who pre-registered for the Velothon Wales 2016 can book their place from tomorrow (Monday 23rd November).

The price has gone up but this reflects the cost of a closed road sportive (no doubt the police/council have asked for more money this year). I have signed up as a charity rider to raise money for Save the Children. A JustGiving page will be appearing soon (I’m aiming this at family/friends/work colleagues, rather than Wheelers members, as I know people wish to raise funds for Rhys).

The 2016 list of Welsh sportives that look interesting include:

* Tour of Pembrokeshire Saturday April 23rd 100 miles, 10,000 ft climbing. I’ve done this for the past 5 years and it’s brilliant. (also other distances) Starts in St Davids

* Velothon Wales, 87 miles, 6,000 ft. Sunday, 22 May. Best Sportive in Wales. Starts in Cardiff city centre

* Double Devil Gran Fondo – new event organised by County Cycles – Sunday May 29th, 121 miles, 12,227 ft – goes up Devil’s Staircase and Elbow! Starts in Builth Wells. Looks mental. (also shorter distance)

* Dragon Ride – 142 miles, 11,000 ft, Sunday June 5th. (other distances available) Starts Margam Park

* Merlin Ride 102 miles, 10,000+ ft, Sunday, August 14th. (other distances available) Starts Nantgaredig Rugby Club.

I’d recommend having a look at individual websites for info including prices. Feel free to add more events to this list. Not forgetting Bob’s SWCC Century ride – of course!

Cheers

Paul

BTW: So far I’m doing the Velothon, Dragon, Tour of Pembrokeshire and seriously thinking about the Double Devil and Merlin Ride.
