Interested in joining Swansea Wheelers?

Swansea WheelersThe club is always keen to attract new members and will always try to accommodate you on a ride.

We like to encourage potential members to come along and try a few rides to see if the club is right for you so just contact us, you don’t have to commit and you won’t be asked to join until you are sure.

Thinking of Joining?

You are welcome to come along to a Sunday Club run where you’ll find riders of all ages and abilities. Even if you’ve never ridden in a group before the Sunday Club run is a social ride that will allow you to build up your speed and stamina. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about what to expect.

Visitors & Guests

Even if you are just in the Swansea area temporarily, on holiday etc, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You are very welcome to join us on a ride or we will be happy to give some advice on routes to suit your ability and preference.  We do however ask that you contact us in advance of attending any club ride so that we may ensure we can accommodate you.

Important

If you do decide to come along, please do come prepared. Most is common sense really but…. a well maintained & road worthy bike, a rain jacket, a pump, 2 spare inner tubes, tool kit/multi-tool, some cash (for the cafe stop and/or emergencies), mobile phone (optional), 2 bottles of drink and some food (banana, chocolate bars etc).  As a club we operate a mandatory helmet policy at all times.

If you are a little uncertain about what to expect here are three scenarios that may help you:

I regularly cycle 40-50 miles or more

If you can see this, you’re in the right place.

Fantastic. If you are a regular 50-60 miler, have ridden in a large group before and comfortable with the pace of our Sunday club run (average 15-17mph) then it is likely you are going to be comfortable, albeit if new to the club we do ask you to attend one of our Saturday rides first if you are able to do so.  We always operate a no-drop policy so there is no danger of you being abandoned in the middle of nowhere. From 3rd Feb 2013 the club meets at the south end of the Liberty Stadium, Swansea SA1 2FA, Brunel Way entrance by the ticket office (behind Frankie & Benny’s), leaving at 9am (April-Sept) and 9.30am (during Winter Oct-Mar).  Full details on our Contact Page.

I don’t know about club cycling but I can ride a steady 20+ miles

Join Swansea WheelersGreat. Assuming that you know your way around a little and are comfortable cycling on your own as well, then why not come along to our Saturday introductory ride detailed above. This will give you an insight into what to expect and allow you to build your fitness before committing to a Sunday Club run.

It’s much easier getting stronger and fitter with a group… and more fun.

I was hoping for something a bit easier.

Don’t worry, we may not be the club for you just yet but you could try the Cyclists Touring Club who are an excellent organisation and help novice riders get into cycling with advice and more leisurely rides. You can contact the local Swansea group of the CTC through their website at www.ctc.org.uk

If you are still not sure, just contact us via our Contact Page or visit our Facebook page.
