Guests were Griff (S.U.C.C.) and Tim Lowen & Tony White.
We rode up the Bonymaen bypass and into Winchwen, where Tony & Tim turned off. Onto the Marsh road to Skewen, where we picked up Kevin. Along the bike path to the Bridge and through Baglan and Margam. We turned right after the Park onto Water Street, where Louis took the Bridgend County sign. Right again over the M4 to Mawdlam, where a small group broke clear, with the main agitator being Phil G. Surely not going for the Porthcawl sign from 3 miles out?
A larger group formed by the golf course and down into the dip before the climb up to the sign. Trevor looked like taking it and sat up Erik Zabel style only to be pipped by Griff in Oscar Freire fashion. Onto Fulgonis cafe for a stop. Leon turned back here.
Back on the road, up the Steps climb and down into Laleston. Through the lanes, we regrouped and climbed up to Cefn Cribbwr and Fford-y-Gwraith. Bob & Andy turned off here. The rest of us climbed over Mynydd Talwyn to Llangynwyd and down into Cwmfelin and Maesteg.
Up the golf course hill climb and regroup at the N.P.T.sign. With an easterly tailwind, it was going to be p.b.’s all the way down the dog leg descent into Bryn until Simon H. had a ‘speed wobble’ at 50 mph. Fortunately, no traffic was coming the other way, as he wrestled with his bike to resume control, on the wrong side of the road, whilst searching for a ‘soft place to land’! Thanks to his MTB piggery skills, he was able to come to a safe halt, only shaken but not stirred. Damn deep section wheels?
Down into Bryn and the valley road, right at the lights and into Pontrhydyfen and up Sardis & Level Crossing hills but the ‘Cimla’ sign has disappeared. Down into Neath and home.
