Sunday Club Run – Gower (Trevor’s Tour of Tycoch)

Gower RouteThere were 11 riders out today in wet and windy conditions, for Trevor’s Tour of Tycoch (via Gower) clubrun.

Guest was Phil Rees (2/4).

We rode through Brynhyfryd, Cockett, Waunarlwydd and picked up Steve in Gowerton. Then up the Wern and onto Welshmoor. The first part of the common showed signs of ‘burn back’, which meant some acrid fumes for us carried by the wind. At the later part of the common a strong crosswind made for heavy going. Into Llanrhidian, Bob turned off as we rode to the Greyhound and the Cheriton loop. Through Burry, Burry Green and the lanes to Scurlage, where Mark N. & John went up the road to contest the Scurlage signs. John took both into a headwind. Onto Porteynon and a cafe stop at the Captain’s Table. 25 miles.

Back on the road, with a tailwind up Overton hill and the Horton lanes to Oxwich. Along the marsh road and up the hill to the main road. Right onto the South Gower road, where the pace soon picked up for the Penmaen sign, which was easily taken by Andy M. Down into Parkmill and up to Fairwood, where Paul, Andy & Phil turned off. Across the common and down into Killay, where Steve turned off. As Trevor was not out to guide us through Tycoch, we rode through town and home. 45 miles.

Points:- 4 = John, Andy M., Paul, Mark N., Steve P., Phil G. & Mark W. 3 = Nic, Bob & Jeremy D. Guests = 1.
