There where 4 riders out today for a very wet and windy start from the Liberty Stadium. A change of route was decided due to weather conditions and Paul E wanting to be closer to home, so we headed down the Gower.
We rode up through Brynhyfryd on to Fforest-fach, then we turned left at lights heading down to Waunarlwydd, through Gowerton and out to Penclawdd. Riding into a strong head wind with Trevor and Mark N pulling Paul E and Jeremy D along all the way to Llanrhidian. All still in a group like good Swansea Wheeler club riders (he he). We carried on along the road for a bit, then we turned right off main road by the Grey hound Pub, past Weobley Castle. Then down in to Cheriton where we turned left up the steep climb.
At the top we regrouped then the 4 of us rode across the flooded common down to the main road, turning left towards Burry Green. The group turned right into Burry Green lanes, but due to road ahead close we had to turn left up to towards Cefn Bryn. Paul E getting an early shower after racing off in front and meeting a 4×4 racing towards him and hitting the large flooded area first, covering Paul with a Wave of water….we all had a good laugh even Paul E. We all carried on up the climb, then down past the King Arthur Pub, then the group met a few horse running wild on the road, we all made it past ok and down to very flooded main road junction. After stopping for a little while, watching all the cars risking their engines ploughing throw the water, we turned left onto main road all the way to Shepards for our café stop.
All refreshed and after Jeremy D finishing his long chat about bikes with the local loon, It was back on the road with the sun starting to break through the clouds, nice change from the rain. Straight on for a bit, then we took a right turn towards Kittle, through Kittle and down the hill, then the group turned right to Bishopston, then right down to Caswell. Up the long climb to the top, where we all regrouped. At Newton we took the very steep decent to Langland, where Mark N had brake adjustment problem on the way down, after telling Trevor how great disc brake were earlier in day….It was feet down time! After some brake adjustment and an empty of the pants, we all climbed out of Langland on to main road, then we turned right through Punch lane down to sea front. Just a quick stop for a photo. Then we road onto the prom to Black pill, Paul E leaving us at this point. The rest of us road for home. Total distance 47 miles
Next Sundays ride (2nd Feb) Gower (Rhossili) 50 miles.
See you there.
