We rode up the Swansea valley to Pontardawe cross, where Bob turned off. Up the hill and along the valley road and saw Wyn John riding the other way. Down into the Aman valley, where we did our best to avoid interfering with a Tri/duathlon that was taking place. Into Ammanford, where Simon ‘Goldenhubs’ Healan turned off, we rode up to Llandyfan, Trapp and our cafe stop at the Castle. 25 miles.
After a short stop, Mark N. turned back, it started raining as we turned right up the hill to Gwynfe and down to the 3 Horseshoes. Onto the road to the Black Mountain, which was shrouded in mist. Mark K. had a puncture half way up the hill and we regrouped at Brynaman. Along the head of the valley road to Cwmllynfell, where Barry headed straight home and we struggled up the Gwrhyd. Once on top, we had the pleasure of a headwind and rain. About half a mile after the church, we heard a loud popping noise. After establishing that no-one had been shot, Simon S. had had a blowout puncture and the tyre had been slashed by something on the road. After a quick patch up, we set off again and because of the time lost, the worsening conditions and mild hypothermia of some of our inappropriately dressed members, we decided to head straight back through Pontardawe and home. 55 miles.
