There where 9 riders out for this dry but windy 9.30 start from the Liberty Stadium, no sorry, 9.35 start, with Trevor and John making a later appearance (not like Trevor). Welcome back to Paul E. We all rode up through Brynhyfryd, onto Fforestfach, straight through the lights carrying on up the main road. Then we turned left off the main road heading to Garngoch. We passed Days, at the roundabout we turned left on to the dual carriage way and carried straight on towards Loughour.
The rain still holding off but the gusts of wind getting stronger at this point. So we all carried on across the bridge and headed off towards Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Path. When we arrived at the coastal path we were met by the roads covered in sand and diggers clearing the path. So it was decided that we stay on the main road, we were all protected from the wind due to the rows of house each side of the road, which was a pleasant relief, until the gaps in the houses where the wind would push you across the road if you weren’t ready for it. It was getting dangerous, so it was decided to just ride to Kidwelly and back.
We all rode through Burry port and on to Pembrey, the pace picking up along the straight road to Kidwelly. The club captain Mark N struggling to keep up on his single speed with his max speed of 24mph, with the rest hitting 27mph +. As Ian W passed me, he said my legs looked like a hamster on a wheel. thanks Ian. On to the café stop.
All refreshed it was back on the road, heading back the same way that we came, but into a very strong head wind, which was taking its toll on the riders. Some of the riders finding it hard after coming back from injury. We all pushed on, with group splitting up due to the weather conditions, so we stopped and all regrouped by Machynys golf course and then we all road as a group all the way back. Very hard day in the saddle. Total distance 50 Miles.
Next ride Sunday 2nd March to Glyncorrwg 45 Miles
(I will see you all in 3-4 weeks after my knee op)
