There were 15 riders for this sunny start from the Liberty Stadium, lots of summer bikes on show and summer kits for some. We rode past the stadium on the cycle track heading towards Morriston. We all rode at a steady pace through Morriston, Ynstawe, Clydach and onto Pontardawe. At the traffic lights we all turned left up Ponty climb towards Cymgors, pace picking up as lots of rider fighting to get to top first, with Jonny and Mark N pushing onto the usual stop. At the stop we all regrouped, it was time to shed some layers, Trevor offering to store it at his lock up, but Jeremy D deciding to dump his over a hedge in a field to pick up later.
Then it was back on road again, at GCG we all turned right and headed toward the Black Mountains, at mini roundabout Dave G and Andy turning off at this point. The rest of the group carried on up the Black, the group splitting up on the climb to the top with the day getting warmer and warmer, Jason K and Ian W feeling the heat as still sporting winter kit, with Phil G and Simon P reaching the top first. After a short stop to all regroup it was onto the fast decent all the way to Llangadog. We turned right at junction and headed towards Llandovery, the speed picking up with Louis and Mark N working hard at the front, after a while, Mark N pulling back to pick up Lance (guest rider). At Llandovery time for a café stop in the sun.
All refreshed it was back on the main road towards Sennybridge, after a short time on the main road we all turned right by the caravan park, time to face the ride ahead onto and through Myddfai it was steep climb after steep climb, the hardest 5 miles of any ride so far. Everybody making it to the red kite pub, Lance struggling at this point, but every rider looking out for him and helping him when he needed it. At the junction by the pub we turned left and headed along the road for a while, then we turned right up the climb through Glasfynydd Forest and onto the roller coaster for the fast decent to the main road, some of the group stopping at Craig-y-nos Country Park for a bottle top up, some pushing on home. The remaining group stuck at a steady pace all the way back to Pontardawe, with Phil G and Trevor doing most of the work at the front. At Pontardawe the group splitting up, all heading for home in different directions.
Total distance 75 miles
