There where 8 riders out for this cloudy start from The Liberty Stadium. We headed off up the bypass towards Trallwn. We all stopped at the mini roundabout by Jersey road to pick up Trevor, as running late due to wardrobe issues. The 9 riders then carried on through Trallwn onto traffic lights, where we all turned right and headed down to Skewen, through Cadoxton and out towards Glyn Neath.
At Glyn Neath traffic lights Trevor and Simon H turned left heading for home. The rest of the group carried straight through the lights and then climbed up to Cefn Rhigos, Phil G reaching the top first after saying he was going to take it easy! We all regrouped at top, Phil R turning back at this point. Then we headed down to Aberdare, riding through the centre, turning left off main road and up the steep climb of Maerdy Mountain. Phil G and John F pushing ahead, quickly followed by Mark N and Edwardo, but Phil G holding the gap to reach the top first again. At the top we regrouped and then headed off before the rain came in, it was down to Ferndale, then over the steep Penrhys climb and down to Treorchy for our well deserved café stop.
All refreshed it was back on the road, it was easy going for a short while as we all head for the winding climb up the Bwlch. On the start of the climb the group split as Phil G and Edwardo push ahead, the group was unable to pull them back. Phil G reaching the top of the climb first, followed by Edwardo….Seems that was the way it going to be all day. After a short stop it was down the fast decent at very high pace, with the all the riders sticking together all the way down, through Afan Valley. We all turned right off main road and headed through Pontrhydyfen and up Sardis Hill, not many riders fighting for the top, Edwardo reaching the top first….Think we were all climbed out by now! Then down through Cimla, Neath and home.
A big Well Done to the boys who finished The Tour of Pembrokeshire in such bad conditions
