Club Run – Ogmore (Col du Caerau)

ogmore120513There were 12 riders out yesterday for the clubrun to Ogmore-by-sea. No guests.

We rode through Winchwen, Trallwn, Skewen and over into Neath. Up Cimla hill, where the group split up, before descending into the Afan valley together. Across the viaduct, where Bob & John turned off. Up the Afan valley and right at Cymmer to climb the Col du Caerau.

It was capes on, for the descent as the weather started closing in. A cold, wet & windy descent down into the Llynfi valley and Maesteg. Along the valley road until Cwmfelin and right and up the hill to Llangynwyd. Over Mynydd Ty Talwyn and down the open cast road to Cefn Cribbwr, where Phil G. took the sign. Into Laleston, where Phil again took the sign and through the housing estate road to the A48 and Ewenny. We followed the road up to St Bride’s Major, where Paul had a puncture.

Through Southerndown and onto the cafe stop at Franklins. Ian W., complete with crutches was awaiting our arrival (sorry Ian, no points) with the story of his broken leg, undiagnosed after 5 days after his tumble last sunday!

Back on the road, in cold, wet & windy conditions, but with a tailwind to Ewenny, we soon warmed up going through the lanes back onto the A48. Up the Steps and down into Portcawl with Trevor taking both signs. Through Nottage and along the coast road, where 4 riders broke free, going across the golf club road going for the Kenfig sign. Through Mawdlam and up the dunes road, where the Captain was dropped. The 3 continued onto Margam Park and the pace picked up for the Margam sign with Mark N., the engine of the break and main aggressor of the day. Phil G. started the sprint but it was Trevor who popped up to take the sign.

Points:- 4 = Andy M., Trevor, Phil G., Mark N., Paul, Mark K. & Mark W. 3 = Phil R., Nic, Karl, Bob & John.
