There were 19 riders out today for this dry but windy start from the Liberty Stadium. We rode up through Brynhyfryd onto Fforest-fach cross, at the lights we turned left. At the next set of lights the group turned right, heading down into Waunarlwydd to meet a horse roaming free on the road holding all the traffic up, we had a short stop here while some people helped the horse in to a nearby field. We road straight through Waunarlwydd and out to Pen-clawdd. The group rode through Pen-clawdd all sticking together in to the strong head wind, to Llanrhidian and down past Oldwalls. We turned left at the bottom of the hill and carried on past Fairyhill, due to Burry Lane being closed. All riders still together we rode up the long climb to Cefn Bryn, all regrouping at the King Arthur Pub.
Once re-grouped we headed down the hill passing through Reynoldston and in to the lanes, when Paul E came tumbling off his bike after hitting a pot hole, which was covered with water. Paul suffered some cuts from the hedge row and bruises from the landing, but seemed ok….unlike his bike, time for the phone call for International Rescue. 4 riders waited with Paul at the junction of the main road (Nick C, Trevor L, Mark N, Simon H), the rest carried onto Rhossili for the café stop. After a while waiting with Paul E, it was decided that 2 riders would carry on to café stop to let the rest know what was happening. Trevor L and Nick C deciding to wait, so Simon H and Mark N push on to Rhossili.
Half of the group leaving the café stop earlier and heading for home, the remaining riders waiting for Trevor and Nick. Still no sign of Trevor or Nick, we decided it was time to get back on the road. We rode out of Rhossili and down the hill meeting Trevor and Nick on the way. Both riders back with the group, we rode all the way back to Scurlage and turned left at junction heading back along South Gower road towards Oxwich.
The pace starting to pick up through Oxwich walls and onto Penmaen, where an impatient women was trying to pass, as she passed she shouted some abuse and sounded the horn. Anyway we carried on, down the fast decent to Shepards, where the women from the car was standing, Phil G stopping to talk to her. She said that she was very sorry for what she had done and said she was in the wrong!! So back on the road, we headed straight on up the road the group splitting some turning right towards kittle and heading home. The rest of us road through Killay, Tycoch, Fforest-fach and home.
