There were 20 riders out for today’s Club run to Dolau Cothi Gold Mines.
Guests were ex Wheeler and MCC Member Andrew Hilton, ex member Phil A, Neil (friend of Paul’s) and SUCC x 2.
After negotiating the A4067 dual carriageway we joined the Clydach Road, through Clydach and onto Pontardawe. Left up the first climb of the day and onto GCG where Andy turned off. Turning right towards Brynamman Paul broke his chain in his eagerness to get the power down for the climb to come. Then up the Black Mountain in several groups as some waited for Paul to fix his chain.
Descent into Llangadog, right on to the A40 and then left to tackle the slight but steady incline to Pumsaint. First cafe stop opportunity looked as though it had been closed for some years. After debating stopping at the petrol station we gambled on the Gold Mines cafe, which was open but only to those purchasing a £1 raffle ticket at the entrance.
Refreshments were taken al fresco under clear blue skys.
Then back on the B4302, passed the Talley Lakes to Llandeilo and on to Ammanford. The group started to split here, with the hard core unable to resist the lure of Scotch Pine before the drop into Morriston and home.
Approx 75 miles stadium to stadium and barely a cloud in the sky the whole day.
