There were 22 riders for this cold start from the Liberty Stadium. Phil G showing off his borrowed ride (very nice too!!). We all headed through Morriston, down to Ynysforgan and on to Clydach at a steady pace. Turning left at Pontardawe lights and up the climb towards Cwmgors, the group splitting on the climb due to a misunderstanding by the captain. The fast front group of riders, leaving Mark N and Holly Lawrence on catch up, not sure what was happening in the trailing group so just pushed on through Ammanford and Llanybie & still no sign of the leading group at this point.
Down to Ffairfach, where the lead group caught back up with Mark N and Holly after they took a wrong turn in Ammanford. We turned left at the roundabout heading for Macdonalds Cross Hands for café stop, as Gelli Aur country park café closed. Pace picking up again, to much for Mark N and Holly, so we just paced each other to Cross Hands picking up Louis on the way. All riders regrouping at Mcdonalds except for Bob, Andy and Simon H not sure where they turned back.
Back on the road…all sticking together for the rest of the way back, after a little telling off from Phil G (only joking Phil). We all pushed up the climb to Upper Tumble, Mark K staying back to help 3 of the newer riders home at a slower pace. The rest of us turning on to the roller coaster at Llannon at a fast pace to Hendy, all regrouping at the junction, then in to Pontarddulais the group splitting in half at lights, half heading to Mumbles, the remaining group pushing on then turning left off main road for the climb towards Felindre, Louis carrying straight on. In to Felindre and on to Morriston then home. 54 miles in total
Guest riders – Roddy & Matthew (Friends of Andrew Hilton), Tom Vale, Gruff (Swansea Uni) and Holly Lawrence.
Next weeks ride Sunday 26th Jan Llandovery 75miles. See you then!!
