There were 12 riders out today for this cold and windy start from the Liberty Stadium. Phil G having to pushing his bike to the stadium after suffering a puncher on his way down. After finding the small piece of glass in his tyre which was causing the problem, the flat was fixed.
We all headed off towards Brynhyfryd, Bob turning off at this point, he was heading up Swansea valley, he was saying the ride to Ferryside was to fast a pace for him. The rest of group continued through Brynhyfryd onto FforestFach. We turned left of the main road past the back of Tesco, at lights Ian W, Rhys, Nick C decided to turned back, the 7.30 start must have been too much for them! The rest of us carried straight onto Garngoch with Phil G turning back at this point, his legs still feeling the ride the day before. The remaining 5 rider carried on along the Loughor bypass at a very fast pace due to the strong tail wind, on Loughor bridge we picked up alone rider, Steve P making his return (welcome back!!). Onto the coast road, cycle path and then Burry Port, Paul E racing for the sign on his own and looking very pleased with him self…. just wait till summer Paul, wont be so easy then.
It was back on main road onto Kidwelly at high speed with this nice tail wind. John F turning back at this point, the rest of us carried on to Ferryside for the café stop. The owner was as happy as ever, Jonny asking for beans on toast on brown bread, but just getting a shake of the head off the owner, only white was allowed. Coffee order was some milky and some normal but no…. everybody had the same that’s all he was making.
Back on the road again up the steep Broadley climb and back in Kidwelly Paul E going for any signs at this point, didn’t think B+B signs counted Paul? Onto Burry Port the ‘nice tail wind’ from earlier had now turned into an ‘in the face head wind’, it was a chain gang all the way back to Llanelli, then coast road to Bynea, across the bridge at the mini roundabout with Steve turning off at this point. The rest of us taking the by pass to Gowerton Paul E falling off back his legs turning to jelly not sure what flavour though, must have been all those signs. At roundabout we turned right past Gowerton rugby club. Paul turning right at lights heading towards Gower. the rest of us heading to Waunarlwydd, Andy M taking cycle track to mumbles and the rest of us heading to FforrestFach and finally home. Total distance 55miles
Next weeks ride 19th Jan Gelli Aur Country park. See you all then
