There was 14 riders out today for a wet and very windy start from the Liberty Stadium. One rider braving the conditions in summer gear (guest rider Andrew Hilton) mad man. We road through Morriston up the old road to Clydach, when the heavens opened and the rain didn’t stop all the way to Pontadawe, Bob and Dave G turning off at this point. The rest of us carrying on in a group towards the Swansea valley.
We decided to carry on up the Swansea valley to Craig-y-nos for the café stop, not a lot happening along way, everyone kept their heads down and pushed a good pace, I think everybody was glad to get to this stop for coffee and cake. We surprised the lonely member of staff serving behind counter when 12 wet cold cyclists over running his café, he was run off his feet . All orders in for coffee and cakes and the a cold wait out side due to the nice clean cream seating inside.
After the coffee, cake and freebies (think he lost count, but didn’t seem bothered about this) it was back on the road again. Due to the current weather conditions and the weather forecast for the rest of the day, we headed straight back home the way we came. At the Ystragynlais roundabout the ride split, some riders took the direct route home, while Trevor, Alan C, Mark N turned up towards the Black Mountains on towards GCG then home, just to extend the ride slightly, met with very windy conditions on this choice of route. Total distance including the turn towards the Black mountains was 50 miles.
Well done to everyone who turned up, it was a challenging ride with the weather conditions. Lets hope its a bit better next week.
