Two newcomers in Tomos Watkin and Simeon Davies, whilst Barry L joined us for the first time for a while.
With Trevor arriving at the club in the nick of time to salvage his assault on the Club Run trophy, we set off from the club and towards Morriston and Ynystawe. On through Clydach and into Pontardawe, where we picked up a variety of riders who had preferred a lie in to joining us at the Stadium.
Left and up the Hill to Rhydyfro where Dave G had a mechanical with his mudguard, so asked us to go on without him. We pushed on up the rest of the hill and on towards GCG, with a few minor sprints for signs. Sorry but don’t know who got the result.
Right at GCG and on towards Brynamman where Bob H turned off before the rest of us headed up Black mountain. As always the group broke up, with Chris R and Adam N competing for the top where we all regrouped again. Phil N met us at the top.
Down the other side where Carl W survived a rear puncture from some thorns on the road. After fixing it we turned left and through the lanes to Bethlehem before left again and on the road towards Ffairfach.
The pace picked up here and we split into two/three groups, with Chris R ending up doing a lot of the pace setting as we headed into ffairfach. As the lanes came to an end but with the sign not yet in sight Phil G jumped away from distance to take the sign, leaving Trevor crunching his gears and cries from Barry L of “I didn’t know where the sign was”. Phil G sympathised, smiling from ear to ear!!
After the regroup we turned left and up the uncomfortable long steep climb, down into Trapp and up the other side to the café stop, which was bustling with a lot of visitors. Refills of coffee as usual and lots of carrot and chocolate cake.
Talk at the café stop touched on the AGM and spin class, plus club kit. As we set off a touch of rain in the air managed to hold off as we headed into Ammanford, with Trevor and Chris attacking each other along the way. At Ammanford a number of people turned left and towards Garnant, whilst the remainder of us tackled Scotch Pine, with everyone making their way up at the own pace. I think against Chris R was first to the top, although I think even he called it a toughie. Personally I find it the hardest climb around. Just after Scotch Pine we split again before heading back towards Morriston and home in various directions.
Well done to Tomos for completing the ride admirably and to Simeon for fighting through the pain. Approx 55 miles from club to club with 1700m of climbing, so a challenging ride today.
