There were only 8 riders out today for the planned club ride to Ferryside via Pontyyates. The wind and rain were yet to arrive at the club, but everyone knew what was coming and winter bikes / rain jackets were on show. 2 guests today Kevin and Pat.
As the weather was against us and the wind growing stronger we decided to change route and shorten the ride, which turned out to be a wise decision. We set off via Brynhyfred and on to Carmarthen road. Unfortunately one of our guests found it too tough from the very start, despite a much reduced pace. Dave G was planning to turn off anyway and as our guest was heading towards Llanelli they continued at their own pace.
The remainder of us moved on to the Loughor bridge where we turned right, skirted around the back of Gorseinon and on to the road through Grovesend and then Pontardulais.
Through the lights and along the mountain road, where the rain arrived bang on 10am. Around towards Ammanford where we turned right towards Garnant and GCG. Trevor couldn’t resist the small climb to GCG and after the Secretary attacked only to blow up 25m from the top, Trevor rolled over the crest of the hill. We stopped in Cresci’s café for chocolate cake and “Americanos” before heading on to Pontardawe and home.
Shocking wind but thankfully not too cold yet, but a taste of things to come and a reminder to drill a hole in my winter boots to stop them acting as a bucket in the wet.
36 miles in total club to club, which was more than enough
