A Game of Two Halves
Thanks to all of the Aber riders who made it a good trip and especially Jason for driving the team van to and from Aber last weekend. Without his selfless actions and goodwill this club and many others up and down the country, I’m guessing, would cease to exist. Anyway, some of my memories of the trip:-
The freezing wet descent into Trecastle and thinking there’s another 55 miles of this to go. Passing the weekend warriors as we rode over the MOD ranges, never would a bullet in the back be more welcomed. Seeing the G.B. Cycling Team car at the Neuadd Arms in Llanwyrtyd Wells and wondering… Huddled in front of the open fire in the bar. Gloves dried out though. Struggling up a wet Devil’s Staircase with Jason filming the agony and then him turning into a tifosi (on You Tube shortly). The illegal motorbike scrambling tossers who wanted us to move over the road. Also struggling up the Gamallt, trying to ward off cramp. Climbing the Esgairs. The wet rollercoaster descent into Tregaron and being jumped for the sign by Eduardo (cheers Ed). The pain of New Cross Hill after 80 miles (on You Tube shortly). The relief of reaching Aber (first…again!). Maesymor hostel smack in the middle of Aber. Mileage = 83. Arrived @ 17:00.
Perfect autumn sunshine for the ride home. Eduardo taking the Tregaron sign from Steve (cheers Ed). Steve taking the Lampeter sign from under my nose (cheers), thereby forcing to me to ride another Aber trip… Mark N. taking the Llandeilo sign with Ian W. close behind.Steve taking the Ammanford sign after jumping away from Mark N. & Ian W. on the brow of the hill. Struggling up Scotch Pine climb. Mileage to Morriston Hospital = 70. Arrived @ 15:00.
